A backdrop is the perfect way to make sure the theme is seen! It is also the perfect place to stage photos and centre any activity you might have planned. For that reason, when designing the backdrop you should leave the centre area clear.
For the turtles backdrop, I created a red brick background and then just added the sewer pipe and slime style name. Font Space and other similar sites have some great free fonts, just search ‘ninja turtles fonts’.
Sticking banners and pictures on the walls at venues can sometimes be difficult. Some venues have strict rules about sellotape, blue tac and others just won’t let you put anything on the wall. Table decorations are perfect for continuing a theme and not causing too much stress when setting up or clearing away.
At this party, I painted the turtle’s faces on square canvases, using the same template…just different coloured eye masks (who’d have thunk eh!).
Propping them up on the table meant that they weren’t fixed in one place for the whole event either. I could move them around as needed depending on what the table was holding.
For the record, I did not make the cake! The cake is centre piece of the table and if I’d have made it, it would have been hidden under the table! Sweet and Sour made all our birthday cakes in Vietnam.
I love having someone there to paint the kids’s faces. An art student or just someone with a steady hand is always a good option.
The painted turtle masks were a great idea for the kids to get into the theme. They could choose their favourite turtle as well.
As I said, printing is cheap in Vietnam and so we printed turtle style faces ourselves. All the kids got to choose a sticker when they arrived.
Be sure to contact me if you want further information on anything you have read in the article or if you want to order your own canvas turtle faces!
